Welcome to the Two Cultures blog!

10 Sep

The blog is a place to record thoughts and ideas that connect and build on things discussed in class.  Whereas the Question/Comment pages are “quick writings” designed to help you parse and grapple with the daily reading, the blog entry is perhaps a slower, more deliberate attempt to build structural and conceptual bridges.  While the Q&C writing can focus on one small, specific element of one small, specific text, your blog entry should always try to connect two or more such readings.

I strongly encourage the use of various alternative media forms in your blogs.  Examples include images, links to other blog posts, short videos, sound clips, etc.  Since the real purpose of the blog is to get you to build connections, you should feel free to scour the internet as you construct your blog posts.  Do note that citation in the blogosphere works by somewhat (but not entirely) different rules than citation in the conventional academic discourse.  You should still give credit where credit is due, especially for ideas and phrasing, but you can, e.g., use links as a “data-less” citation form.
